Hortena has grown, packed and shipped fresh fruit and vegetables since 1994, from the fields around Strumica to grocers and importers in 12 countries. GlobalGAP and GRASP certified in the field, Fairtrade certified on select lines, and packed to EU specification before anything leaves the yard.
Hortena is an agricultural company known for its production of fruit and vegetables. Founded in 1994 in Strumica, in southeast North Macedonia, it is today one of the country’s largest fruit and vegetable exporters.
Production is spread across several farm locations, from open field to glasshouse, and continues on land farmed by subcontracted local growers whose season we supervise from planting to harvest. That mix is what lets us hold volume and grade steady across a long season.

Our field production is GlobalGAP certified, which means EU benchmarks for safe, traceable agricultural practice are met and audited, not assumed.

Select lines carry Fairtrade certification, guaranteeing fair prices and safe working conditions for the growers behind them.

We are assessed under GRASP, the GlobalGAP add-on module covering fair labour and social practice across our farms.
Not every harvest leaves as raw produce. Vita takes Hortena grown peppers, cucumbers and cabbage and turns them into ajvar, pickled gherkins and ready to serve salads. Same fields, same standard, same family name. “A jar full of life,” as Vita puts it.
